Radiology - 14 Hrs of CE Credits

Applicants must be currently registered as a dental assistant in the state of Tennessee. After completing this course, the participant will be able to explain how dental x-rays are created, have the ability to recognize the need for dental x-rays, explain how x-rays affect the human body, list the different sizes and parts of intraoral x-ray films, demonstrate the appropriate techniques for taking bitewing, periapical and panoramic x-rays, demonstrate the appropriate technique for exposing panoramic, bitewing and periapical radiographs and determine correct exposure and processing errors. Students will learn how to mount and label radiographs correctly.

Coronal Polishing for Registered Dental Assistants - 16 Hrs of CE Credits

This course is designed to prepare practicing dental assistants for the coronal polishing examination. This lecture will be for the dental assistant who has an entry level understanding of dental terminology, dental sciences and dental procedures. The objectives are:

Nitrous Oxide Monitoring for Registered Dental Assistant - 8 Hrs of CE Credits

This course is designed to provide the knowledge needed to successfully monitor the use of nitrous oxidel oxygen analgesia in a private dental practice. The topics to be presented include a review and update on basic physiology, information on a patient evaluation for the use of nitrous oxide a discussion of the role of nitrous oxide in the dental practice a review of the new equipment and techniques, and knowledge of the indications and contraindications for using nitrous oxide. The students will learn a brief history of nitrous oxide oxygen and conscious sedation, the legal provisions for dental auxiliaries to monitor dental anatomy and physiology related to the human body and common drugs that react to nitrous oxide. Nitrous Oxide Administration for Registered Dental Hygienists - 16 Hrs of CE Credits

Describe the condition of a patient in each of the four stages of anesthesia. Evaluate medical histories, take vital signs, and interpret results. Properly titrate the dose of nitrous oxide. Discuss the physical and chemical properties of nitrous oxide. Discuss the potential for abuse of nitrous oxide. Review signs that patients are experiencing an adverse reaction to the nitrous oxide. Local Anesthesia for Registered Dental Hygienists - 32 Hrs of CE Credits

The dental hygienist will be able to discuss the neurophysiology of pain control. Knowledge of pain control principles. Understand pharmacology of local anesthetics. Perform an evaluation of the patient, which includes dental and medical health history. Prepare and then demonstrate the use of the correct armamentarium for the local anesthetic procedure. Describe and use the correct technique for safe effective administration of local anesthesia under dental supervision of a licensed dentist. Discuss and avoid complications of local anesthesia systemically and locally. Describe appropriate procedures if complications arise due to the administration of local anesthesia. To achieve and maintain correct record keeping for the local anesthetic procedures performed. Integrate the knowledge about anesthesia into the control of pain during dental procedures.

Dental Hygienist Refresher Course for Local Anesthesia - 20 Hrs of CE Credits
